About the Person

Gary L. Cox is NASA’s Deputy Chief Information Officer. He leads the implementation of NASA’s information resource management strategy and information technology (IT) reform initiatives. He is responsible for ensuring IT at NASA is integrated, enables the Agency’s mission, provides efficiency and is efficiently provided, and is secured in a risk-based manner. Mr. Cox began his federal career in 1986 at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, serving positions in multiple organizations, including Engineering, Facilities, and the Resident Officer in Charge of Construction. He joined NASA in 1998 at the Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD, in support of the Earth Sciences Data and Information Systems program. Prior to joining the Office of the CIO at NASA Headquarters in April 2004, he held position in several organizations at Goddard, including the Procurement Management Division, Information Services and Advanced Technology Division, and served as Program Manager for the Outsourcing Desktop Initiative for NASA (ODIN) Program. Within the Office of the CIO, he has served as Executive Officer, Acting Deputy CIO, Associate CIO for Policy and Investments, Associate CIO for Enterprise Services and Integration, and Deputy CIO for IT Reform. He completed the Excellence in Government Fellows Program in 2002, NASA’s Leadership Development Program in 2003 and NASA’s Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program in 2007. He received a Presidential Rank Award in 2012 for meritorious service. Mr. Cox holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Management and a Master of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems.
