The BOOMCHICKAPOP® story is nothing short of fantastical. And would you believe it all started in a cold, Minnesota garage? Dan and Angie Bastian wanted to do something fun with their kids, while showing them the value of hard work. The dedicated Spanish teacher and nurse practitioner soon turned their amazing kettle corn recipe into a BOOMing business. Sold at local events, this popcorn quickly caught the eye and more importantly, the taste buds of The Vikings*. The rest, as they say, is history.
We believe a just food system begins with breakfast. So we`re searching faster and further, working with rural farmers, Michelin-starred chefs and world-class product developers to find tools in the plant kingdom that will make our food tastier, healthier, and more sustainable.
Since the Mi Rancho grocery store first opened its doors in 1939, hard work and passion have brought us success, as we now produce over 4.5 million tortillas a day, roughly 1.3 billion tortillas each year. We employ true artisan bakers and professionals, with some of our employees having worked here as long as I have. Remaining loyal to our roots, we only use California corn and flour. While we have grown, we refuse to grow into a “tortilla factory.” Just like we did so many years ago, we continue to follow the authentic techniques to produce delicious tortillas I’m proud to serve to my own family.
