Arthur J. Gallagher and Co. and its subsidiaries provide insurance brokerage and risk management services to various commercial, industrial, institutional, and governmental organizations. It operates in two segments, Brokerage and Risk Management. The Brokerage segment primarily consists of retail and wholesale brokerage operations. Its retail brokerage operations negotiate and place property/casualty, employer-provided health and welfare insurance, and retirement solutions primarily for middle-market commercial, industrial, public entity, religious, and not-for-profit entities. This segment`s wholesale brokerage operations assist company`s brokers, and other unaffiliated brokers and agents in the placement of specialized and hard to place insurance programs. It also acts as a brokerage wholesaler, and managing general agent or managing general underwriter distributing specialized insurance coverages for insurance carriers; and performs activities, including marketing, underwriting, issuing policies, collecting premiums, appointing and supervising other agents, paying claims, and negotiating reinsurance. The Risk Management segment offers contract claim settlement and administration services for enterprises that choose to self-insure some or all of their property/casualty coverages, and for insurance companies that choose to outsource some or all of their property/casualty claims departments. This segment also offers integrated disability management programs, information services, risk control consulting (loss control) services, and appraisal services. The company provides its services through a network of insurance brokers and consultants. It operates primarily in the United States, Australia, Bermuda, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Arthur J. Gallagher and Co. was founded in 1927 and is headquartered in Itasca, Illinois.

 

About the Person

Eric C. Dean has been Corporate Vice President at Arthur J Gallagher & Co. since May 2012. Mr. Dean served as Chief Information Officer of Liquidity Services Inc. (LSI) from October 2, 2007 to April 1, 2012 and also served as its Executive Vice President. Mr. Dean also served as Chief Information Officer of Government Liquidation com LLC. He leads LSI's technology strategy and implementation in support of LSI's continued growth. In this role, he oversees LSI's e-commerce platform, technology infrastructure and application development programs with a focus on meeting the business needs of LSI's customers. Mr. Dean also provides technical expertise and identify opportunities to drive efficiencies as LSI scales to a much larger enterprise. He has over 30 years of experience in guiding the strategy, implementation and management of information technology processes in large scale, global enterprises and growth company environments. He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Schaller Anderson, Incorporated. In this role, he oversaw Schaller Anderson's IT activities as well as major development initiatives to support Medicaid plans and processing within nine managed care organizations. Mr. Dean provided strategic direction and day-to-day management of information systems for Schaller Andersen and its affiliates. He was responsible for leading its Information Technology organization, integrating technology into the business strategy, using technology to improve business performance, and delivering needed information and systems across the organization. Mr. Dean serves as founding chairman of the Liberty Alliance, where he led the group of 40 consumer and technology companies to ratify practical federated identity standards in just nine months. He served as managing partner and Chief Information Officer of Andersen Worldwide and then Arthur Andersen from 1997 to 2000. During his time there, Mr. Dean revitalized Andersen's technological structures, particularly with the implementation of the Internet into Andersen's knowledge-sharing environment. He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for United Airlines from 2000 to 2002. As Chief Information Officer of United Airlines, he began overhauling its massive legacy systems, introducing new enabling technologies and rebuilding an initial round of old systems even through the aftermath of 9/11. He serves as an Independent consultant, speaker and writer in the technology industry. He serves as an Independent Consultant of Liberty Alliance. Mr. Dean serves as Chairman of the Arizona Health-e Connection Roadmap Technical Task Group, launched by Gov. Janet Napolitano in 2005 to develop a plan for early adoption of a statewide electronic health information infrastructure. He was also Founding Chairman of the Liberty Alliance, the multi-national Internet standards organization that created the federated identity segment of IT industry by creating its first round of standards in nine months. He serves as Member of Advisory Board of Univa, Inc. He has co-authored two publications about information technology. Mr. Dean holds Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Indiana University.
