Beaufort Memorial Hospital, opened in 1944, is licensed for 197 beds (169 acute, 14 rehab and 14 mental health). We are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and boast a quality medical staff of more than 150 board-certified or board-eligible physicians at our medical center in South Carolina. We are the largest hospital between Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. Situated on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, we are an acute care hospital and a regional referral center. Our mission is to deliver superior healthcare services to our patients and to improve the health of our community.
Edward D. Ricks, MHA, is the Vice President of Information Services and Chief Information Officer for Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, SC. He has over twenty years of health care information systems experience working for four health systems, with more than ten years at a senior level. Prior to joining BMH, he was Chief Information Officer at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, New York. Mr. Ricks earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Mr. Ricks is a member of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). He is also a member of the Meditech 6.X Service Advisory Board, Centurylink Customer Advisory Board, Imprivata Customer Advisory Board, and the Technical College of the Lowcountry CPT Advisory Committee. For the tenth year in a row, Beaufort Memorial Hospital was named one of the nation’s Most Wired-Small and Rural Hospital according to the 2012 Most Wired Survey and Benchmarking Study printed in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. Beaufort Memorial is one of only three South Carolina hospitals that received the award.
