About the Person
Doug Schmidt is Chief Technology Officer at Pearson. He joined Pearson in May 2011 in the newly created role of Chief Enterprise Architect. Prior to this he worked at CBS Interactive where he served as Vice President of Technology and in this capacity oversaw all technology strategy and implementation for the TV, Movies, Games, and Food Division. In this role he was responsible for all global Software Engineering, Product Management, Systems Operations, Technical Production, Quality Assurance, and the Project Management Office. Doug has also held executive technology positions at CNET Networks, CNET Channel, and Last.fm. He has lived and worked in Moscow and Geneva running the software engineering and product teams for the world's largest technology products catalog called DataSource. Doug also lived in London for a year during which time he released Visual Radio and Last.fm on XBOX360 to 20M global users. Doug is passionate about all aspects of technology and has further extended his expertise as co-founder of a stealth Internet startup that is innovating new products and technologies in the mobile profile brokering and Near Field Communications spaces. He is also an advisor to a Palo Alto-based Internet start-up in the children's activity and gaming space. Doug holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Siena College in Loudonville, New York and has five international technology patents pending.
