About the Person
Dominic Nessi joined the staff of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) as Deputy Executive Director/Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Information Management and Technology Group in September 2007. He is responsible for all information management and technology functions at LAWA’s three airports: Los Angeles International, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys (general aviation). His responsibilities include oversight and management of all airfield and landside support, business and administrative information systems and functions such as Common-Use Support Processing, flight and baggage information terminal paging, automated vehicle identification, airport badging system and parking systems, as well as GIS and other business related systems. He also oversees all airport public safety security, including access control systems, closed circuit TVs, video management systems, digital trunked radio, computer-aided dispatch and other security related systems and manages/supports the technology component of major capital improvement projects. Professional Experience Nessi was vice president for technology of Computer World Services Corporation in Washington, D.C. before accepting his present position. Prior to that, he served as the first CIO of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS). As NPS CIO, Nessi was senior manager for all information technology and information management matters. He also oversaw the NPS’ annual technology budget. Nessi served as CIO of the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1998 to 2001, overseeing the development of a critical and challenging system initiative in the federal government dealing with complex Indian land trust issues. Prior to joining the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Nessi served from 1988 through 1998 as a deputy assistant secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, managing an annual budget of almost $1 billion for various programs for Native Americans. Education Nessi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Roosevelt University in Chicago, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Northern Illinois University, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Master’s Certificate in Applied Project Management from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He also holds numerous professional certifications for management, cyber-security and IT planning. Awards, Commendations Nessi has received numerous awards and commendations for his professional achievements. In 2009 he was named one of Government Technology magazine’s 25 “doers, dreamers and drivers.” Under his management LAWA has received a number of prestigious awards for information technology in different fields. While in the federal sector, he was awarded the Presidential Rank Award, the nation’s highest civilian award for federal executives; letters of commendation from three presidents and awards from numerous Native American tribal governments and organizations.
