Headquartered in Fremont, Calif., we have offices around the world to service our global customer base. Our engineers are responsible for inventions captured in approximately 400 issued patents and applications. And we lead public standards development by actively participating and contributing to standards bodies such as ATIS, Broadband Forum, FSAN, IEEE 802.3, ITU-T, NIPP-NAI, and TTC (Japan). Ikanos provides robust, high performance semiconductor and software products that enable network equipment manufacturers and service providers to deliver broadband to the digital home.
A 30-year veteran in the communication and semiconductor industry and a DSL pioneer, Pal has extensive experience identifying and developing new technologies and products. Pal has a proven record of successfully bringing products from concept phase through product delivery. Prior to joining Ikanos, Pal spent over five years at Tallwood Venture Capital in a variety of roles including chief technology officer and executive in residence. Prior to joining Tallwood, Pal founded Telicos Corporation. Before Telicos, Pal founded Excess Bandwidth Corporation, an xDSL physical layer chipset company that was acquired by Virata Corporation. At Virata, Pal was responsible for xDSL physical layer technology and IC product development. Before Excess Bandwidth, Pal held key senior technical and technical management positions at Amati Communications (acquired by Texas Instruments) which pioneered DMT- based ADSL and VDSL technologies. Prior to Amati, Pal held senior technical positions at AT&T Bell Laboratories and Intel Corporation, where he was on the design team of the world famous 80286-microprocessor. Pal has made seminal contributions to electrical engineering and applied mathematics. 1n 1982 he introduced the concept and theory of Balanced Stochastic Realizations that advanced the field of control theory. And in 1990, Pal developed the first solution to the long-standing open problem of finding a fast (O (n2)) algorithm for factorization of a Toeplitz matrix with an arbitrary rank profile. Pal holds seven U.S. patents, has published more than 30 technical papers, and is a Fellow of the IEEE. Pal is a Consulting Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. Pal received a B.Tech. (Hons.) Degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India; a M.S.E.E. degree from Washington State University; and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, under the guidance of Professor Thomas Kailath, renowned for his influence on many areas of electrical engineering and applied mathematics. In addition, Pal holds an elected position as a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs).
