David Gustafson joined Nevada as CIO in 2009, and is noted for having led statewide cybersecurity efforts that included live attack monitoring starting in 2012. A centralized security system now serves more than half of state agencies, resulting in reduced costs and reduced security incidents. Before joining Nevada state government, Gustafson served as MIS Manager for Dunn Companies, held management roles at Microsoft, and worked as program manager at Alere Medical. He also served as the secretary-treasurer for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).
