About the Person

David A. Barnes, also known as Dave, has been an Executive Officer of United Parcel Service, Inc. since April 1, 2016. Mr. Barnes served as the Chief Information Officer of United Parcel Service, Inc. since 2005 until April 1, 2016 and served as its Senior Vice President since January 2005 until April 1, 2016. Mr. Barnes was responsible for all aspects of UPS delivery technology used around the world to deliver millions of packages each day. He served as Global Business Services Officer at United Parcel Service, Inc. since 2014 until April 1, 2016. Mr. Barnes served as the Vice President of customer and operations application portfolios in Information Services, directing the technology development activities of approximately 3,000 of UPS`s 4,700 technology professionals. He oversees the day-to-day operation of UPS. He served as Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President at UPS Expedite from 2005 to 2011. He served as a Corporate Information Services Portfolio Coordinator at UPS from 2001 to 2004. Mr. Barnes has a long track record of customer focus since joining UPS in 1977 as a part-time package loader in St. Louis, Mo. He held key positions during UPS`s global expansion efforts in the late 1980`s and early 1990`s, combining his financial expertise and knowledge of the industry and daily business operations with a firm grasp of technology. Notably, he was the lead business manager on the development of the International Shipments Processing System (ISPS), a Smithsonian award-winning software application developed internally at UPS. By 1984, Mr. Barnes was promoted to corporate internal audit manager and in 1986 was assigned to work on the start-up team for UPS Airlines, now the world`s 11th largest airline. Formed in little more than a year with all necessary technology and systems in place, UPS Airlines is the fastest growing airline in FAA history. He served as special projects manager during the airline`s start-up phase and eventually became the UPS Customhouse Brokerage controller and information services manager. In 1998, Mr. Barnes assumed the role of customer information management process manager and in 2001 added additional responsibilities for the Information Services Customer Technology Portfolio. In this key position, he managed virtually all UPS technology initiatives that directly touched the customer, including ups.com and a growing number of Internet-based shipping tools. In 2002, he was promoted to vice president, Application Portfolios and oversaw customer technology, sales and marketing, package delivery operations, multi-modal transportation, customer development, as well as operations and transportation applications development. He was a part-time supervisor for UPS. He has been an Independent Director of Ingram Micro Inc. since June 4, 2014. He is a board member of the Saint Joseph`s Mercy Foundation. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Mr. Barnes held a number of management positions as UPS began its global expansion efforts, most notably during the development of the International Shipments Processing System, a Smithsonian award-winning software application. He holds a Bachelor`s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri.
