As the third largest not-for-profit health system in the United States, we are committed to providing for the needs of our communities – especially for those who are poor and vulnerable – across Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Our system includes more than 73,000 caregivers (all employees) serving in a diverse range of ministries from birth to end of life, including acute care, physician clinics, long-term and assisted living, palliative and hospice care, home health, supportive housing and education. We operate 34 hospitals, 475 physician clinics, 22 long-term care facilities, 19 hospice and home health programs and 693 supportive housing units in 14 locations. Our health plan serves our caregivers and other large employer groups covering 390,000 members. On any given day, we care for more than 1,200 people in our long-term care settings, more than 4,000 in our hospitals and more than 15,000 in our clinic settings. Daily, we serve more than 7,000 people in our many home health and palliative care programs and almost 800 in supportive housing. We touch more than five times as many lives in non-acute settings as we do in the traditional hospital setting.
The King's Daughters' Hospital and Health Services is owned by the Bethany Circle of King's Daughters' and Sons, and has been since August 25, 1899. The board of managers oversees the operation of the hospital and its facilities. The inspiration of local
Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) – an Ontario government agency – drives quality and continuous improvement in disease prevention and screening, the delivery of care and the patient experience, for cancer, chronic kidney disease, as well as access to care for key health services. Known for its innovation and results-driven approaches, CCO leads multi-year system planning, contracts for services with hospitals and providers, develops and deploys information systems, establishes guidelines and standards, and tracks performance targets to ensure system-wide improvements in cancer, chronic kidney disease – through the Ontario Renal Network – and access to care. Formally launched and funded by the provincial government in 1997, we are governed by an act of legislation called The Cancer Act. As an operational service agency of government, we are accountable to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. The details of our relationship with the Ministry are laid out in a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). We follow the management principles of the Government of Ontario. These principles include ethical behavior, accountability, excellence in management, wise use of public funds, high-quality service to the public and equitable access to high-quality service. We are authorized by the Personal Health Information Protection Act to collect and use personal health information to carry out our role in planning and managing the cancer system.
Hazel Hawkins Hospital is a full service, 62-bed not for profit hospital providing exceptional health care to San Benito County and southern Santa Clara County. For more than 100 years, our physicians, staff and volunteers continue to carry on the values of respect, compassion, and excellence introduced by our founders in 1907. Hazel Hawkins Hospital offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services that include emergency services, stroke care, surgical services, radiology and diagnostic imaging services, laboratory services, palliative care, physical, speech and occupational therapy, respiratory care, and a new modern birthing center. Also included within the San Benito Health Care District are four community health clinics, two specialty centers and four satellite lab/draw stations and a home health agency. Hazel Hawkins Hospital is one of the few California hospitals still locally governed. The hospital’s community-based, elected Board of Directors protects this local status and assures that dollars earned are reinvested to improve the health of the community.
