Miami, FL-based City of Miami has Appointed Conrad Cross as Chief Information Officer
The City of Miami is known as the “Magic City” and is the largest municipality in Miami-Dade County. Our world renowned skyline stretches across Biscayne Bay. According to the most recent US Census estimates (July 2015) 441,003 people call Miami home. Many of our residents come from Caribbean Islands and Central and South America. In fact, 70% of our population is Hispanic or Latino. The City of Miami is governed by Mayor Francis Suarez, City Manager Emilio Gonzalez and 5 City Commissioners who oversee their districts in the City including neighborhoods like Wynwood, Little Haiti, Little Havana and Brickell, which is the heart of our thriving financial district. The City has 4,864 employees working in 37 departments from Agenda Coordination to Zoning. We have 137 parks, 3 of which are designated National Forest Communities. There are Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) offices in 11 different communities providing convenient access to services. The Miami Trolley provides free transportation throughout the city and recently surpassed a major milestone - 5 million riders. We are the City of Miami - a great place to live, work and play!
Conrad Cross is a former CIO of the City of Orlando's Technology Management Department who recently retired fro City government after 23 years of service. He has held several positions including Computer Operations Bureau Chief, Applications Development Bureau Chief, Systems and Networks Bureau Chief over the past 23 years. Conrad worked in the private sector as Director of Network Operations for two companies, Virtual International, Inc. and Applied Digital Communications, Inc., both providers of networking services and applications. A certified computer developer Conrad holds a management degree from the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida. He has had many hours of training on computer, data/voice communications and management issues with various organizations such as IBM, Microsoft, and Gartner. Previously, Conrad served on the board of directors for the Orlando chapter of the Society of Information Managers (SIM), the advisory board of the University of Central Florida's business school and Federal Computer Week CIO Summit. He has chaired the E-government Advisory Committee for the City of Orlando and served on the Mayors High Tech Advisory Committee. He was the winner of the 2001 IT Achievement Award sponsored by the Computer and Technology Showcase organization. Conrad was the recipient of the inaugural City of Orlando Mayors Leadership Award in August 2005. One of his most recent noteworthy accomplishments was successfully migrating the City of Orlando's email application to the cloud, a pioneering move amongst City governments in the US. Cross has incorporated his own consulting company in the State of Florida ""Cross Consulting Consortium"" and can be found on the speaking circuit evangelizing on the adoption of new technologies in organizations.
