Sul Ross State University in Far West Texas boasts a combination of small class sizes, an appreciation of both fine arts and the sciences and popular professional programs in a relaxed, friendly environment. The university, comprising 647 acres in Alpine, Texas, boasts a beautiful 93-acre main campus of exquisitely-detailed buildings and enjoys perhaps the most temperate climate in the state. Its situation in the Davis Mountains overlooks the center of the city below, yet it remains within easy reach of many local stores and restaurants. The university also has a 468-acre working ranch that serves its animal science programs. The university has three satellite campuses in Del Rio, Uvalde and Eagle Pass, collectively known as Rio Grande College. Southwest Baptist University (SBU) is a private institute of higher education affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention, which is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. In 2003 there were approximately 3,600 students attending at one of SBU`s four Missouri campuses, located in the towns of Bolivar, Mountain View, Salem and Springfield. Abner S. Ingman and James R. Maupin founded Southwest Baptist College in 1878 in Lebanon, Missouri. The Lebanon campus originally had an enrollment of 60 students and six faculty. The college lasted one year before the city decided they no longer wanted it. When news got out that the college would be moving, the communities of Aurora, Monett, and Bolivar in southwest Missouri attempted to attract the college. In 1879, the state of Missouri chartered the school and it moved to Bolivar, Missouri. The college went through many financial difficulties in the early part of the Twentieth Century. On June 1, 1910, at 11:00 am., the fire that would destroy the campus started. The fire broke out under suspect circumstances, leading some to believe arson was the cause. Bolivar citizen firefighters tried to put out the fire, but the water supply ran dry and at 2:00 pm the fire engulfed the whole campus. Losses were estimated at $20,000. The college was rebuilt, and reopened in 1913.
Coconino Community College (CCC) was established in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1991 and currently serves all of Coconino County reaching out to communities in Flagstaff, Williams, the Grand Canyon, Page/Lake Powell, Fredonia, Tuba City, the Navajo Nation and surrounding areas. When CCC first opened its doors,nearly 1,000 students enrolled at the Flagstaff campus in the first semester. Since then, the college has experienced an astounding growth rate and today servesnearly 10,000 students per year with four main campuses: the Flagstaff Lone Tree Campus and District Offices; Flagstaff Fourth Street Campus and Technology Center along with the FMC Institute for Nursing Education; Page/Lake Powell Campus and Navajo Generating Station Technology Center; andthe Williams Campus.Classes are also available at CCC. CCC provides affordable tuition and a wide variety of certificates and degrees including career/technical programs. Additionally, CCC offers classes in continuing education, community interest courses and non-credit workshops. Many classes transfer to four-year Universities. Classroom instruction is located on campus, online and through interactive TV (ITV).
