Chuck Olson, DSc, served as a Vice President of Process Development at Coherus Biosciences Inc. Mr. Olson serves as Vice President of CMC and Technical Operations at NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. He serves as Vice President of Protein Sciences for Anthera Pharmacetuicals. Mr. Olson served as Senior Vice President of Product Development and Operations at Ansun Biopharma, Inc. (formerly NexBio, Inc). Mr. Olson was responsible for NexBio`s drug substance and drug product process development, analytical and bioanalytical development, manufacturing, quality and facilities operations. He spent a significant early portion of his 30 year career at Genentech and Bayer respectively, focusing on process development and protein characterization. He is a drug developer with unique scientific understanding of, and broad operational experience with, recombinant protein based products. Mr. Olson possesses the leadership skills necessary to has promising new products through development to market. His combined experiences at both startup and established companies has afforded him with valuable skills to resolve critical technical issues decisively and to overcome systems related obstacles, as well as to actively manage crucial risk/benefit situations. In addition, Mr. Olson is experienced in Health Authority inspections including, but not limited to, new (PAI) and recurring agency inspections. Mr. Olson’s expertise extends to all aspects of manufacturing operations and process development. He has worked internally and externally with biotech organizations, encountering and resolving technical or logistical challenges in process, yield, purity, or scale-up. With a significant early portion of his career as a Scientist at Genentech and Staff Scientist at Bayer, his focus has been on process development and protein characterization. Mr. Olson is a drug developer with unique scientific understanding and broad operational experience with recombinant protein-based products. Before joining NexBio, he served as Vice President at Cell Genesys for its Hayward Operations, where as the site general manager, he was responsible for a 100,000 sq ft biotech facility with over 120 employees representing all facets of cGMP operations. Mr. Olson has served as Vice President of Process Development roles at Anthera Pharmaceuticals. At NexBio, he was responsible for drug substance development, drug product development, analytical development, manufacturing, facilities, and quality. For its lead candidate, Fludase™ for the treatment of influenza, NexBio used a semi-virtual business model with R&D managed internally and GMP manufacturing and testing outsourced. Mr. Olson was responsible for all CMO sourced process development at Anthera, including tech transfer (as determined from published patents and literature), scale-up and process optimization. He also was responsible for the manufacturing of its Phase 2 fermentation-based peptibody product for treating lupus. Mr. Olson served as Senior Director, Manufacturing, Facilities and Process Development at BioMarin Pharmaceuticals. He has been Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Stellar Biotechnologies, Inc. since June 6, 2014. He has also held the position of Director, Manufacturing Sciences at Onyx Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Olson holds a B.A. in biology and chemistry from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA, an M.A. in chemistry from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a DSc in biochemistry from Hawthorne University.
