Columbia, MD-based Howard County Department of Housing has Appointed Christopher Merdon as Chief Information Officer

Christopher Merdon, an executive with 19 years’ experience in senior-level management with several top technology companies. Merdon has extensive experience in public sector technology, operational efficiencies, staff management and development, and government procurement and contracting. Additionally, he has a strong knowledge of Howard County Government operations, having served as a member of the County Council from 1998 to 2006. Most recently, Merdon served as a senior vice president of the Tempe, Arizona-based company, American Traffic Solutions, where he led a team that developed technology solutions for 300 state and local government clients, including the development of innovative school bus traffic safety technology. Before that, he was an executive director with J.P. Morgan Chase in Washington D.C., working on data management, electronic payment cards and other solutions for a variety of public sector clients. His previous experience also includes seven years as a senior vice president and in other positions with ACS, working on public safety, health and transportation technology solutions such as the development of a web-based system for tracking payments for subsidized child care in the state of Oklahoma. Earlier in his career, he helped develop the web site used by the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Merdon, 42, a graduate of Temple University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration degree, resides in Ellicott City with his wife Michelle, a radiologist, and their two children, April and Nicholas, who attend Howard County public schools.
