Fort Wayne, IN-based Steel Dynamics has announced the promotion of Bob Francis as Chief Information Officer.

 

About the Company

Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) is the nation`s fifth largest producer of carbon steel products with 2009 annual revenues of $4.0 billion on steel shipments of 4.0 million tons. Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, SDI employs about 6,000 and operates five electric-furnace mini-mills. Over half of the company`s steel shipments are flat-rolled steel and the remainder is "long products" (bars and beams) and fabricated products. SDI is among the most profitable American steel companies in terms of profit margins and operating profit per ton.

 

About the Person

Bob was promoted in 2010 to become Vice President and Chief Information Officer. In this role, he sets corporate direction in information technology and coordinates software development, networking, and telecommunication activities among Steel Dynamics’ divisions and subsidiaries. Bob joined SDI in 1998 and later became IT manager for the Flat Roll Division. He has been responsible for SDI’s corporate information systems since 2001. Before joining Steel Dynamics, Bob served as a software consultant and developer.
