Portland, OR-based City of Portland has Appointed Ben Berry as Chief Technology Officer
Serving the Common Good of its people and the people of the greater region. The City includes bureaus to administer government functions pertaining to fire, police, water supply, wastewater treatment and stormwater management, environmental resource management, urban planning, transportation and parks.
Ben Berry joined the Office of Management and Finance (OMF) team as the Bureau of Technology Services (BTS) Chief Technology Officer effective January 7, 2013. Ben has served as the Chief Information Office (CIO) for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), Multnomah County and the Oregon Employment Department. In these roles, he provided overall leadership, planning, development and delivery of information technology services. As CIO for the second largest state agency in Oregon, Ben was responsible for ODOT systems supporting highways, bridges, rail service, right-of-way determinations, DMV and Motor Carrier commercial trucking inspections and licensing throughout the state. Ben has also served as the Regional Chief Technology Officer of Providence Health System Oregon, supporting a service area of eight hospitals and 33 clinics. His senior leadership in technology includes serving the Royal Saudi Air Force, Kingdom of Saudi Arabian International Airports, and Hughes Aircraft Company. Prior to beginning his appointment at the City of Portland, Ben was an active member of the City of Portland’s Technology Oversight Committee (TOC). The TOC is responsible for overseeing technology investments and projects. Ben continues to be active with the Executive Advisory Board member for School of Business, Operations and Technology Management at the University of Portland; Advisory Council member for Business Information Systems at Oregon State University; Central City Concern Board of Director, and iUrban Teen Tech Summits which bring together underserved and underrepresented teens in the Portland Metro and SW Washington area. He received his M.B.A. from UCLA and a B.S. in Life Science--Biotechnology from the University of Portland.
