Montmorency County sits in the northeastern portion of Michigan`s lower peninsula, bounded on the east by Alpena County, on the north by Presque Isle County, on the west by Otsego County and on the the south by Oscoda County. There are 352, 019 acres in the county or 547.6 square miles of land. With 248 lakes and reservoirs, the county has 14.8 square miles of water surface. Eighty-six percent of the land has forest cover with the economy being supported by forestry and agricultural industries as well as tourism and several manufacturing plants. Montmorency County`s estimated population was 10,478 in 2006.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff consist of the Chairman, the Vice Chairman, the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Chief of the National Guard Bureau. The collective body of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is headed by the Chairman (or the Vice Chairman in the Chairmans absence), who sets the agenda and presides over JCS meetings. Responsibilities as members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff take precedence over duties as the Chiefs of Military Services. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the principal military adviser to the President, Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council (NSC), however, all JCS members are by law military advisers, and they may respond to a request or voluntarily submit, through the Chairman, advice or opinions to the President, the Secretary of Defense, or NSC.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is an operating administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation and was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966 (49 U.S.C. 103, Section 3(e)(1)). The purpose of FRA is to: promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy; provide for the rehabilitation of Northeast Corridor rail passenger service; and consolidate government support of rail transportation activities. Today, the FRA is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation. It operates through seven divisions under the offices of the Administrator and Deputy Administrator.
