Barry Libenson, based out of the company’s North American headquarters in Costa Mesa, Calif. Libenson joined Safeway in July 2013. In March 2014, the company agreed to merge with rival Albertsons, a combination that yielded 250,000 employees, 2,400 stores and $60 billion in revenue. “It’s a real challenge considering most of the retail industry is pretty regressive in terms of technology,” Mr. Libenson said at a Box Inc. conference in September 2014.
