About the Person

Barry Libenson, based out of the company’s North American headquarters in Costa Mesa, Calif. Libenson joined Safeway in July 2013. In March 2014, the company agreed to merge with rival Albertsons, a combination that yielded 250,000 employees, 2,400 stores and $60 billion in revenue. “It’s a real challenge considering most of the retail industry is pretty regressive in terms of technology,” Mr. Libenson said at a Box Inc. conference in September 2014. He also deployed 80,000 voice-over-IP devices from Cisco Systems Inc. before exiting the grocery chain in March  after assisting in the merger transition. Mr. Libenson previously worked as CIO of Land O’ Lakes Inc., where he moved service desk, human resources and business applications to the cloud.
