About the Person
Ashok Banerjee has a healthy disrespect for the impossible. He believes that tenacity and not being afraid to fail can unearth solutions to the most intractable problems—as demonstrated by the numerous patented technologies Ashok has invented. For Ashok, innovation is less about sudden inspiration than careful calculation and constant communication. Having worked at large, departmentalized companies like Twitter and Google, he’s learned how valuable cross-discipline interaction is to fully understanding problems and realizing potential solutions. Most recently, Ashok was Vice President of Engineering at Flipkart—India’s largest e-commerce company. Ashok holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and an MS in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina. He learned a valuable life lesson in sixth grade, after singing Do-Re-Mi out of tune in front of a packed auditorium. As Ashok left the stage embarrassed by the silence, a teacher remarked: “now you’ve learned that nothing terrible happens when you fail.”
