Alastair MacGregor is senior vice president and the chief healthcare information officer at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare (MLH). He is responsible for IT services as the combined chief information officer and chief medical information officer and manages 230 IT staff. Since joining Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, MacGregor has overseen the successful rollout of computerized physician entry to all MLH hospitals and a number of other IT initiatives to enhance patient safety and improve physician and clinician adoption of electronic medical records. Dr. MacGregor is a medical graduate of the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Since the early eighties he has been a leader in medical informatics in the UK, Canada, the USA, and Grand Cayman Islands. He has worked for Scottish health regions, Canadian provinces and large multi-state US health systems. He spent eleven years as a consulting physician executive with Cerner Corporation during which he created Cerner`s physician consulting practice, contributed to the standardization of Cerner`s implementation methodologies for client executives and medical leaders, and was outsourced to clients as a chief medical information officer. In the mid-eighties he served as executive medical officer for the Scottish Mountain Rescue Committee, during which time he established a national, detailed database for serious mountain accidents which led to the creation of a national mountain accident prevention program. Dr. MacGregor`s career has been focused on rapid speed to value for implementations, standardization, and measurement of the value of IT investments regardless of vendor or organizations. In recent years Dr. MacGregor has served on the KLAS Advisory Board, a US consulting group that evaluates healthcare vendors and service companies and Cerner`s Client Care Council.
