The Texas Water Development Board`s (TWDB) mission is to provide leadership, information, education, and support for planning, financial assistance, and outreach for the conservation and responsible development of water for Texas. Our mission is a vital part of Texas` overall vision and its mission and goals which relate to maintaining the viability of the state`s natural resources, health and economic development. To accomplish its goals of planning for the state`s water resources and for providing affordable water and wastewater services, the TWDB provides water planning, data collection and dissemination, financial assistance and technical assistance services to the citizens of Texas. The tremendous population growth that the state has and will continue to experience, and the continual threat of severe drought, only intensify the need for the TWDB to accomplish its goals in an effective and efficient manner.
The New York State Thruway Authority operates a 570-mile toll facility known for its dependability and safety. The Thruway is one of the longest toll roads in the nation. The Thruway is a vital commercial link for New York`s largest cities and for the entire Northeast. About one-third of all vehicles using the Thruway are from out of state. The mainline of the Thruway extends 426 miles, from New York City to Buffalo (I-87 and I-90). Other elements of the system include the New England Thruway (I-95), the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287), the Garden State Parkway Connector, the Berkshire Connector (I-90), the Niagara Thruway (I-190), and the Erie Section (I-90). The New York State Thruway is an independent public corporation created in 1950 by the New York State Legislature. The first section of the highway opened in 1954, a 115-mile section near Rochester. In 1964, the highway system was re-named “The Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway” to recognize vision and leadership of the former governor (1943-1954) in the creation of the cross-state superhighway.
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs was created in 1945 to consolidate separate veterans programs under one agency. Today, the WDVA provides grants and a variety of services to eligible Wisconsin veterans and their families. Programs included in the department’s mission are the: Wisconsin Veterans Homes, Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemeteries, Veterans Administration Regional Claims Office, Military Funeral Honors Program, Veterans Assistance Program and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. These programs are designed to provide health, educational assistance, economic assistance and other services to specified veterans of the armed forces of the United States. The WDVA is led by a Secretary of Veterans Affairs who is nominated by the Governor of Wisconsin after consulting with the presiding officers of at least six Wisconsin veterans organizations. The Governor’s nomination of the Secretary must be confirmed by the Wisconsin State Senate. The department receives advice from a nine-member, part-time, citizen advisory Board of Veterans Affairs.
