The Montreal Canadiens were officially founded on December 4, 1909. With an NHL record of 24 Stanley Cup Championships, we are proud to have a fan base that reaches all continents. Much more than a professional sports franchise, we are dedicated to our community through a broad spectrum of initiatives ranging from hospital visits, blood drives and the construction of artificial and multipurpose community rinks in underprivileged neighborhoods. The Southern Illinois Salukis are the varsity athletic teams representing Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The nickname comes from the Saluki, the Royal Dog of Egypt and the Persian greyhound, which ties into the fact that southern Illinois has had the nickname "Little Egypt" for just under 200 years.
