Our North Harbor Revitalization efforts demonstrate our commitment to residents and attracting new and existing business with our dedication to providing quality housing and stimulating economic growth. All of our efforts with regards to public safety, economic development, education, revitalizing our parks, providing quality services and creating jobs have only just begun. Together, we have balanced the budget and accomplished a great deal in such a short period of time. We look forward to a brighter future in East Chicago.

Newburyport (18,000) is a vibrant coastal community rich in natural beauty as well as gracious Federalist architecture built with the whaling and clipper ship fortunes of this prolific 19th century seaport. The city is very proud of its history. The first tea party in opposition to England`s tax on tea was held in Newburyport, well before the more famous one in Boston. We are pleased to be the birthplace of the United States Coast Guard. The first ship commissioned for the Coast Guard, the frigate Massachusetts, was built in the City. Protective of its heritage, the City launched a massive redevelopment scheme in the early 1960s, using state and federal funds to reclaim its historic neighborhoods of granite, brick and cobblestones and provide up-to-date infrastructure such as water and sewer renovations.

California`s public education system consists of three levels — state, district and county. Regulations, funding and fundamental policy is established at the state level, while the day-to-day education of students is the responsibility individual school districts. County offices of education are the third level and provide an important support system for local schools and districts. KCSOS does not oversee or govern any one Kern County district, but rather serves and supports them all. Specifically, the Kern County Office of Education audits and approves district budgets, helps formulate new curricula, assists with staff development and training programs, among much more. Additionally, direct instruction for thousands of students is offered through special education, alternative education, Regional Occupational Programs and early childhood education. KCSOS also has the responsibility of monitoring districts for adequate textbooks, facilities and teacher qualifications.
