Located in Sparta, TN, Highlands Medical Center is a 60-bed acute-care hospital accredited by The Joint Commission. Founded in 1929 by Dr. E.B. Clark, the hospital currently employs more than 230 people at its current modern facility, which was built in 1996. HMC is a part of the Capella-Saint Thomas system of hospitals, a joint venture between Capella Healthcare and Saint Thomas Health, along with sister hospitals River Park Hospital in McMinnville, DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville, and Stones River Hospital in Woodbury. The hospital is one of the area’s largest employers and tax payers.
Mercy Hospital has the distinction of being Chicago’s first hospital — and first teaching hospital. As Mercy Health System, it serves the Windy City with 479 licensed beds and a Level II Trauma Center. Mercy also offers a comprehensive network that includes the Mercy Family Health Center, a look-alike Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), 11 auxiliary care facilities, MercyWORKS occupational health program, two school-based health centers in Wendell Phillips and Dunbar Vocational Career Academies and the Mercy Foundation, Inc., the philanthropic arm of the hospital. In addition, Mercy has a teaching affiliation with the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Its medical residency program includes internal medicine, OB/GYN and podiatry, and trains more than 100 residents each year, including independent residencies in emergency medicine, surgery and radiology
