Since its inception, Verdant Power has worked in partnership with entities including the US Department of Energy, the US Department of the Navy, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the City of New York, and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, among many others. In 2010, Verdant Power received the Company Pioneer Award at the EnergyOcean International Conference, and in 2006 the company was presented with the National Hydropower Association’s President's Award, the association's highest honor.
Illustrating Verdant Power’s groundbreaking efforts in the regulatory world, on January 23, 2012, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a pilot commercial license for Verdant Power's RITE Project – the first-ever commercial license for tidal power in the United States. Under the license, Verdant Power is authorized to develop the 1 MW project in the East Channel of New York City's East River.
