Together, Cabell Huntington and St. Mary`s have more than 5,000 employees. Cabell Huntington Hospital is a not-for-profit, regional referral center located in Huntington, West Virginia. We care for patients from more than 29 counties throughout West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio. Opened in 1956, we are also a teaching hospital affiliated with the Marshall University Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing. We are the hospital of choice to over 50,000 residents in our city and more than 360,000 regionally. The Huntington region boasts a nationally recognized university and offers Division 1 athletics, along with a thriving business community and downtown. The community also affords a comfortable lifestyle, a low cost of living, state-of-the-art health care, modern educational facilities and unrivaled natural beauty.
As a regional, nonprofit healthcare system, caring for people in the community is not only what Centra does, but it is also central to who we are. We care for our patients like we would care for our own friends and family. Formed in 1987, we are based in Lynchburg and serve over half-a-million people across central and southside Virginia through an established network of facilities and services. We operate four hospitals, five medical centers, a nationally award-winning cardiovascular care center, a cancer center, a 24/7 virtual care platform, and 15 primary care and various specialty practices as part of our Centra Medical Group. We also offer a wide range of senior, post-acute, and mental health care services.
Our first patient stepped through our doors more than 50 years ago. Some of our first associates are still living in the community, or are part of our volunteer program. They have fond memories of those first days, but are even more inspired — and even awed — by the changes that have occurred over the past five decades. Carroll Hospital Center has evolved significantly from a community hospital to become a true medical center — on par with larger urban hospitals. But still, we’re different and — we think —special. Why? We wouldn’t be here without our community. In fact, our community created us. Fifty years ago, a small group of Carroll County citizens gathered and began fundraising for a hospital. Today, the fruits of their endeavors are beyond what even they expected. Top-notch programs and services like our Family Birthplace, skilled home care, our Imaging Center through a partnership with Advanced Radiology, and the Carroll Regional Cancer Center are well beyond what was planned. Our communities expect and deserve superior medical treatment, compassionate care, and expert guidance in maintaining their health and well-being. At Carroll Hospital Center, we offer an uncompromising commitment to the highest quality health care experience for people in all stages of life. We are the heart of health care in our communities.
