West Liberty University is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginias oldest institution of higher education. Established as West Liberty Academy in 1837 (26 years before the state was admitted to the Union), it was created to respond to the need for higher educational opportunities west of the Appalachian ridge. The institution is named for the town in which it is located. West Liberty was so named in the late 18th Century as the westernmost point of the new liberty provided through the Declaration of Independence.
Bemidji State University, a lakeside campus in northern Minnesota, engages in new worlds of thought, embraces responsible citizenship, and educates for a future that can only be imagined. Bemidji State is a catalyst for shaping the potential of those it serves, who, in turn, shape the worlds in which they live and work. The greater Bemidji population numbers 25,000 and serves as a regional commerce and health center. We welcome 5,000 students annually. Founded in 1855 by attorney and abolitionist Ovid Butler, Butler occupies 290 acres in Indianapolis` Butler—Tarkington neighborhood. The University emphasizes a liberal arts-based education with the goal of teaching clear and effective communication, appreciation of beauty, and a commitment to lifelong learning, community service and global awareness. Butler offers more than 60 majors, and our job placement rate has averaged 97 percent over the past five years – 100 percent in education and pharmacy.
