Fairfield University is a Jesuit institution that prepares undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students for leadership and service in a constantly changing world. Approximately 5,000 students from 35 states, 46 countries, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico are enrolled at the University`s six schools. The University was founded in 1942 in the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, Connecticut. Fairfield’s campus is conveniently located an hour from New York City, two hours from Boston, and 30 minutes from Stamford and New Haven, Conn., allowing students to seek internships and employment in a variety of locations. After graduation, students join a strong network of 40,000 successful and passionate Fairfield alumni. In fact, last year’s post-grad summary reported that 98% of the Class of 2013 were employed, in graduate school, or in a volunteer or service program within six months of graduation. They and all alumni are welcomed back to campus as a member of the Fairfield University family, and invited to join one of 10 alumni chapters and regional groups across the country.
Marked by more than a century of tradition since its founding by Booker T. Washington in 1881, Tuskegee University is known not only for being among the nation`s premier historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), but for its openness to all. An independent and state-related institution of higher education, TU is Alabama`s only private land-grant university. Its programs serve a student body numbering more than 3,000 students that is coeducational as well as racially, ethnically and religiously diverse. With a strong orientation toward disciplines that highlight the relationship between education and workforce preparation in the sciences, professions and technical areas, Tuskegee University also emphasizes the importance of the liberal arts as a foundation for successful careers in all areas. Academic instruction occurs in five colleges and three schools: the Andrew F. Brimmer College of Business & Information Science; College of Agriculture, Environment & Nutrition Sciences; College of Arts & Sciences; College of Engineering; College of Veterinary Medicine; Robert R. Taylor School of Architecture & Construction Science; School of Education; and School of Nursing & Allied Health. Graduate instruction leading to master`s degrees is offered in seven of the eight colleges and schools. Doctoral degrees are offered in four of the five colleges. U.S. News and the Wall Street Journal both currently rank Tuskegee University fourth nationally among HCBUs. In its “Regional Universities South” category, U.S. News ranks Tuskegee first among Alabama HBCUs, second among regional HBCUs, and 24th among all regional public and private institutions. The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
