Since its 1976 establishment, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General has been at the forefront of the Nation`s efforts to fight waste, fraud and abuse in and improve the efficiency of HHS programs. The New Mexico Gaming Control Board was established by statute in 1997 and funded during the 1998 legislative session. The agency is tasked with the responsibility for regulating legalized gaming at New Mexicos licensed racetracks, veteran and fraternal organizations. In addition, the agency is responsible for investigating and enforcing violations of the laws and regulations that prohibit illegal gambling activities in the state, and monitor New Mexicos tribal gaming compacts through the appointment of a state gaming representative.
