The Community Foundation of Sarasota County is a public charity founded in 1979 by the Southwest Florida Estate Planning Council as a resource for caring individuals and the causes they support, enabling them to make a charitable impact on the community. Since our founding, the Community Foundation has been making the important connection between individuals` personal memories, passions, dreams and the fulfillment of their charitable goals. We help create permanent charitable funds of everlasting impact. These funds ensure that people of vision will have an enduring influence on the life of their community and the charitable causes they hold dear. With assets of over $292 million in more than 1,300 charitable funds, the Community Foundation awarded grants and scholarships totaling more than $16 million dollars this past year in the areas of education, health and human services, the arts, animal welfare, and the environment. Since our founding, more than $160 million has been invested back into the community through grants and scholarships. We are one of more than 750 community foundations in the U.S. and Canada enjoying rapid growth, making our field the fastest growing sector of American philanthropy. Tax-deductible gifts and bequests make up the permanent endowment of community foundations and annual income from investment of that endowment is used to match donors` charitable interests with needs in the community through grants and scholarships. The Arc Rockland With over 700 employees, we are among the largest employers in Rockland County and have a solid history of more than 60 years of service to the community. We work hand-in-hand with individuals and families to ensure that each person is an integral member of the community. We provide supports and services to more than 1,300 people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Arc offers a Preschool; an Upper School for tweens, teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders; residential offerings; employment and volunteer opportunities; a program designed specifically for adults with autism spectrum disorders; community activities; senior citizen programming; family resources and support; a medical practice; recreational activities and more. Food for the Hungry is an international relief and development organization that answers God`s call to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the poor in more than 26 countries. Founded in 1971 by Dr. Larry Ward, Food for the Hungry exists to help individuals reach their God-given potential. In developing countries on nearly every continent, Food for the Hungry works with churches, leaders and families to provide the resources they need to help their communities become self-sustaining. When disasters strike, Food for the Hungry is often one of the first organizations on the ground to provide and facilitate emergency relief assistance to those in urgent need of food, shelter, and medical care.
