Position Overview:
As a member of the Senior Leadership team, the Chief Technology Officer will report to the President/CEO. The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for overseeing all product development including TechSmith`s best-in-class desktop rich media, screencasting and video editing products, Snagit and Camtasia, as well as development of multiple new cloud SaaS add-on capabilities. The CTO will work closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership team to achieve the growth goals, customer goals, and employee goals of the company. The CTO will lead product development, platform development, innovation labs, and technical product management with an emphasis on coaching, empowerment and talent development. This individual will be a proponent of our technical culture and be active in cultivating TechSmith as an employer of choice.
Responsibilities:
Technical Vision, Leadership
• Helps define the company`s overall strategic direction, growth strategy, and product vision
• Establishes a platform and product roadmap that supports the business strategy
• Embraces accountability for TechSmith`s technical assets, delivery processes, team and individual capabilities
• Drives investment recommendations relating to disruptive technology, and competitive risks
• Ensures products and platforms deliver a high-quality experience for customers
• Develops platforms, people and processes that continually improve time to market, quality, and maintainability
• Leads a team of over 100 individuals, composed of architects, engineers, UX, QA, senior leaders and technical product managers
• Consults with other department heads, such as finance, marketing and operations as an advisor of technologies that improve efficiency and effectiveness
• Builds strong relationships within and across departments, and with partners and recruitment locations
• Drives adoption of development processes and methodologies aligned with corporate strategy
• Promotes a culture of innovation, collaboration, and customer-facing experimentation
• Leads and directs the planning, allocation, training, coaching and evaluation of technology staff
• Communicates TechSmith`s technology strategy to investors, bankers, employees and stakeholders
• Serves as an external technical face of TechSmith, engages with stakeholders in the community, and develops relationships with key technology partners
• Assesses technology of potential partners or acquisitions
Required Experience and Background:
• Must-have led delivery of Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) capability
• Must-have led delivery of market-leading commercial software
• Must-have led a large (e.g. 100+ person) team, comprised of multiple skill sets
• Full financial accountability for a department with regard to budgeting, personnel decisions, headcount planning
Preferred Experience and Background:
• Experience with Agile development/process
• Lean Start-up methodology
• Experience with external collaborations/working with consultants
• Experience partnering with Microsoft and Google
• Experience with Microsoft Azure
• Experience developing global scale services and SaaS solutions on cloud based platforms, ideally using Microsoft Azure
• Experience with C#, .NET, SQL Server, Windows Server, IIS
• Experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML, ASP.NET, Restful APIs, JavaScript frameworks
• Experience with OAuth, Active Directory, and federated identity
Qualifications:
Education
• Master`s degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience
Prior Industry/Role Experience
• 15+ years of experience in the Information Technology and/or Software Engineering arena with at least 15 years managerial and strategic experience in this field or MBA/MS in related field with 10 years` experience, 7 of which must be managerial and strategic
• 10+ of years of experience with hosted and cloud services and related security implications
Skills & Knowledge
• Extensive understanding of scalable enterprise application architecture for SaaS
• Proven record of building teams and delivering enterprise class architecture and solutions
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
