The Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) is a global nonprofit organization founded in 2014 by Daniela V. Fernandez. It is the largest youth-led network focused on ocean conservation, operating in 186 countries. SOA empowers young leaders, innovators, and policymakers to address critical threats to marine ecosystems, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 for sustainable use of ocean resources. SOA offers various programs, including accelerator initiatives that have supported over 480 solutions, such as startups and community-led projects. It provides funding and mentorship through microgrants and fellowships, helping projects like native plant restoration and educational campaigns. The organization also co-hosts global summits, bringing together youth delegates and leaders to advocate for ocean-friendly legislation. With a strong emphasis on youth agency and cross-sector collaboration, SOA has restored 5,800 native species and educated 4,000 youth, making a significant impact in ocean conservation efforts.
