Martin Health System based in Stuart, Fla. comprises three hospitals, one MediCenter, a free-standing emergency center, and numerous outpatient centers and clinics. The Orthopaedic Specialty Center at Martin Health System has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission for disease-specific care certification for joint replacement of the knee and hip. Methodist was founded through the efforts of deaconesses of the Methodist Episcopal Church. On May 24, 1900, Methodist opened as Deaconess Home and Hospital, with 20 beds and its own school of nursing. The first permanent building was dedicated in 1917
