The diabetes prevention program is a 1-year long diet and lifestyle intervention designed to help pre-diabetic patients lose 5-7% of their weight through diet and lifestyle changes. The program is based on clinical research that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2002 which showed that patients who complete the program have a 58% risk reduction for developing diabetes.
