Presbyterian College was founded in 1880 by the Rev. William Plumer Jacobs, an early minister of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, S.C. The college was a response to the educational and social needs of local Civil War orphans, a ministry that coincided with the founding of Thornwell Home for Children a few years earlier. Grounded by its core values of liberal learning, Christian faith, service, honor, community, and vigor - PC is a college that focuses on whole-person education and represents the best in service, honor, and community relationships. What started as a group of 200 people, all focused on a single project – to build and operate the world’s longest linear accelerator – has grown over the last 50 years into a large and diverse workforce that performs and supports cutting-edge research across a variety of disciplines. Our 1,600 employees include scientists, engineers, technicians and specialists in a wide range of operational support areas, from human resources and business services to facilities, security and maintenance, all working together in a collaborative environment.
