The Karmanos Cancer Institute is a unique, integrated center of research, patient care and education, dedicated to the prevention, early detection, treatment and eventual eradication of cancer. Karmanos is based in southeast Michigan, in midtown Detroit, and is one of 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. In fact, Karmanos is the only hospital in Michigan dedicated exclusively to fighting cancer. Caring for more than 12,000 new patients annually and conducting more than 700 cancer-specific scientific investigation programs and clinical trials, the Karmanos Cancer Center is among the nation’s best cancer centers. Karmanos offers access to more than 100 cancer treatments that no other local hospital has. Through the commitment of 1,000 staff, including nearly 300 faculty members, and supported by thousands of volunteer and financial donors, Karmanos strives to prevent, detect and eradicate cancer. The Hannibal Regional Healthcare System (HRHS) story began when community benefactors and leaders formed Hannibal`s first hospitals - Levering Hospital in 1903 and St. Elizabeth`s Hospital in 1914. The merger of these two organizations in the late 1980s led to another major milestone in the evolution of strong community-based healthcare. In 1993 the new Hannibal Regional Hospital opened its doors on a pastoral 105-acre setting which is now a thriving healthcare campus. The beautifully appointed medical campus currently includes Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal Regional Medical Group, Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation, Center for Applied Medical Research, and the James E. The Englehart and District Hospital is a modern 30-bed facility, servicing a catchment area of approximately 8,600 people. Our Family Health Team is staffed by six physicians, two nurses practitioners, a dietitian and a Registered Nurse. A dynamic Diagnostic Imaging Department consists of several services – radiology, ultrasound, ECG’s, Holter Monitors, Echocardiography and bone densitometry.
