The University of Oregon is the state`s flagship institution, with alumni around the globe. It is among the 108 institutions chosen from 4,633 U.S. universities for top-tier designation of "Very High Research Activity" in the 2010 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The UO also is one of two Pacific Northwest members of the Association of American Universities.
Brigham Young University Hawaii is a small, academically challenging university (approximately 2400 students) emphasizing the liberal arts together with professional programs in business, education and computer technologies. The University services an international student body: Approximately 50 percent of the students come from over 70 countries outside the United States, primarily from Asia and the Pacific. BYU-Hawaii is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Established in 1955 as the Church College of Hawaii (CCH), the campus is located in Laie, Hawaii, thirty-five miles from Honolulu. CCH`s name was changed to Brigham Young University Hawaii in 1974, and today is part of the three-campus BYU system that includes BYU in Provo, UT and BYU Idaho in Rexburg, ID. BYU-Hawaii offers a unique environment that helps students enlarge the intellect, build personal character and faith in God, and live harmoniously among those whose cultures are different from their own. Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) opened in 1963 as Ohio`s first community college and remains Ohio`s oldest and largest public community college. For over 50 years Tri-C has provided high quality, affordable education and programs to more than 900,000 members of the community. At Tri-C, we are part of a national movement to redesign, reinvent and reset the completion agenda. The College strives to empower students to complete their education in a timely manner and to guide them toward meaningful careers or to four-year universities. Tri-C ranks first in Ohio and 45th in the nation in conferring associate degrees in all disciplines. Each semester the College offers more than 1,000 credit courses in more than 140 career and technical programs and liberal arts curricula. More than 600 non-credit workforce and professional development courses are offered annually. Tri-C serves more than 60,000 credit and non-credit students each year, and offers day, evening and weekend classes in traditional classroom settings as well as via television, the Internet and independent learning. The College offers more than 800 Distance Learning courses and more than 130 courses at various locations throughout the community, close to home and work. Tuition at Tri-C is the lowest in Northeast Ohio and among the lowest of all colleges in the state.
