Hoag is an approximately $1 billion nonprofit, regional health care delivery network in Orange County, California, that treats more than 25,000 inpatients and 369,000 outpatients annually. Hoag consists of two acute-care hospitals – Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, which opened in 1952, and Hoag Hospital Irvine, which opened in 2010 – in addition to six health centers and nine urgent care centers. Hoag is a designated Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Dosher Memorial Hospital is a Critical Access community hospital with 25 staffed acute care (inpatient) beds and 64 licensed skilled nursing center beds. Named after its chief surgeon Dr. Julius Arthur Dosher, the people of Smithville Township voted to pay a minimal hospital tax to ensure access to quality health care locally. Approximately one mile from Cape Fear, the hospital is located in the coastal historic town of Southport, NC in Brunswick County. The hospital is overseen by a publicly-elected Board of Trustees and generously supported by a volunteer force of nearly 200, making Dosher Hospital unique in the state of North Carolina. The Year 2013 marks the hospital's 83rd year of community health care.
