Eflornithine is a novel cytostatic agent, which Orbus Therapeutics is developing for the treatment of patients with anaplastic glioma (AG), or Grade 3 glioma, a rare form of central nervous system cancer. Eflornithine irreversibly inhibits ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), a key enzyme in mammalian polyamine biosynthesis that is up-regulated in various types of cancer. Orbus Therapeutics intends to develop and commercialize eflornithine in North America.
