Forest City is proud to be one of the smallest communities in the United States to offer a full service YMCA facility. The Forest City Y offers family-oriented fun, Christian values and a state-of-the-art facility that includes a cardio room, racquetball courts, large gymnasium, pool, spa and track. The Forest City Y serves people and families of all ages, income levels, and physical condition; with emphasis on responsibility and self improvement. The Forest City YMCA opened its doors in February 1987 thanks to the vision and generosity of John K. and Luise Hanson. As a child, John K. Hanson, Winnebago Industries founder, learned to swim at a YMCA facility. This impacted him and as Winnebago grew, he wanted the community he loved to benefit from a facility that everyone could enjoy regardless of income level, age or physical condition. He turned that vision into reality and began the process of establishing a YMCA in Forest City. John K. and Luise gifted the necessary funds to build the building which houses the Y and Hanson Field House for Waldorf College. The community rallied around their generosity through an effort called “Help us Open the Doors” which raised funds to equip the facility. Knowing that the YMCA was in a small community, the Hansons` established an endowment fund to ensure the longevity of the Y in Forest City. This endowment keeps membership rates at affordable levels. An annual support campaign is also conducted to provide financial assistance to those in need. The Forest City Y is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Bruce Mielke has served as Executive Director since 1996 and oversees the facility, programs and supervises approximately 65 employees. MY Y IS EVERY Y- IOWA As a Forest City Y member, you have access to YMCAs across the state free of charge through the My Y is Every Y program. You must bring your photo ID and the Y you are visiting with be able to verify your current Y membership. Visiting members are our members! We encourage full use of the facilities, however only the Forest City Y members may receive member pricing on programs.

We work in the courts, in the state and federal legislatures, and at the grassroots level to defend the Constitution wherever it is threatened. The ACLU-DE, the local affiliate of the national ACLU, was established in 1961. We are a first resort when the government threatens our rights in Delaware and a last hope when we are deprived of our liberties. ACLU-DE has played an important role in Delaware history, especially in the arena of education: - In 1975, ACLU-DE, under the leadership of Gerry Kandler, prevailed on the State of Delaware to provide children with physical and intellectual handicaps full access to education. These efforts help spur educational equality throughout the country. - ACLU-DE also played a significant role that led to the desegregation of schools in the City of Wilmington in the 1980`s. This action also had an impact on desegregation nationally. - In the 1990`s, the ACLU-DE was instrumental in reforms to the Ferris School for Boys, which is now a national model as a state-of-the-art juvenile secure care facility.

Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital, with support from our dedicated adult volunteers, provides girls with a fun, high-quality leadership program. As the largest girl-serving organization, our main focus is on leadership development for girls. Girl Scouting has helped girls develop the skills and confidence they need succeed. From our earliest badges in electricity, aeronautics, and natural sciences to today’s all-girl robotics teams and cookie entrepreneurs, girls have challenged themselves through our skill-building opportunities, worked with inspiring role models, and developed lifelong friendships. We’re preparing the next generation of girls for their futures, ensuring that they not only have doors open to them, but also that they possess the confidence to walk through those doors.
