The mission of the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) is to provide consumer protection through education and fair but vigilant regulation while promoting a stable and competitive environment for insurers. ODI is responsible for the oversight and regulation of Ohio insurance companies, agents, and agencies. DFHV regulates the For-Hire Industry in the District of Columbia. The mission of the Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is to protect public interest by regulating the vehicle-for-hire industry to allow the citizens and visitors of the District of Columbia to have safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options. The Department of For-Hire Vehicles provides licensing, adjudication, enforcement, and Lost and Found service for approximately 8,500 drivers, over 90 taxicab companies/associations, and over 600 of limousine operators, as well as DC residents and visitors who use public and private vehicle-for-hire in District of Columbia. The newly reorganized Department of For-Hire Vehicles is now aligned with the mission to regulate the vehicle-for-hire industry to allow the citizens and visitors of the District of Columbia to have safe, affordable and accessible transportation. Agency duties include regulating taxis, limousines, private vehicle operators, digital dispatch services, Payment Service Providers; and managing the relationships with equipment manufacturers and insurance companies. The office is restructured as follows: Office of the Director; Compliance & Enforcement; Regulatory Policy & Planning; Client Services; and Hearings & Conflict Resolution. The For-Hire Vehicle Advisory Council will advise the agency on the industry.
