Established in 1978, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is the largest municipal housing preservation and development agency in the nation. The agency`s mission is to promote the construction and preservation of affordable, high quality housing for low- and moderate-income families in thriving and diverse neighborhoods in every borough by enforcing housing quality standards, financing affordable housing development and preservation, and ensuring sound management of the City`s affordable housing stock. HPD is responsible for carrying out Housing New York: A Five-Borough Ten-Year Plan, Mayor Bill de Blasio`s initiative to build or preserve 200,000 affordable housing units and to help both tenants and landlords preserve the quality and affordability of their homes. HPD is leading the Mayor`s charge, in partnership with over 13 sister agencies, advocates, developers, tenants, community organizations, elected officials, and financial institutions.
With the adoption of the City Charter in 1949, the council-manager form of government under which the City of Killeen currently operates was established. The mayor is the City`s chief elected officer, but has no administrative power. The mayor presides over the City`s seven member City Council, which sets all policy. The operations of the City are overseen by a city manager appointed by the council. The citizens elect a mayor and three council members at large. The other four council members represent specific districts of the City and are elected by voters living in their districts. Terms for the mayor and all council members are two years, with a three-consecutive-term limitation for each office. The City holds nonpartisan elections each May. The mayor and the at-large council members are elected in even-numbered years, and the four district council members are elected in odd-numbered years. Made up of the fifteen municipalities on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the County of Barnstable was founded in 1685 and is one of the oldest Counties in the United States. The County of Barnstable is a special place, requiring special protection and special services managed cooperatively for the benefit of each community. This narrow land has a unique place in the national historical narrative and has been defined by the limitations and expanses of land and water. Cape Cod has always had one foot in the past and one foot in the future. The County of Barnstable focuses its attention on regional issues and resources that impact our coastal waters, environment, and public health and safety. We work hard to develop programs that educate and inform our residents. Our departments are vibrant and active across the Cape and beyond, providing information, support and advocacy for environmental issues, technology innovation, emergency preparedness and more.
To manage the health care of our nation`s Veterans, attention is required toward reliability, safety, efficiency and efficacy. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the nation`s largest integrated health care system. VHA has been organized into 21 regional districts that manage care for more than 8.3 million Veterans in 153 Medical centers and more than 1,400 Primary Outpatient Clinics, also known as Community Based Outpatient Clinics, community living centers and Domiciliaries. The VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) is one of the 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs). VISN 6 is comprised of eight VA Medical Centers and 33 associated community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) spanning North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia (see map). The network utilizes more than 13,500 clinical and support staff members, and about 4,000 volunteers to serve greater than 340,000 Veterans annually across our three-state service area. In recent years the Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network has been rated among the best Networks in VA on clinical quality performance measures. This recognition is a tribute to our staff and a confirmation for our patients that they are receiving the very best in quality health care. This area is already one of the fastest-growing, most densely Veteran-centric populations in the nation. As the size and density of the Veteran population in the region increases, VISN 6 also reacts to improve access to care. Over the next two years, VISN 6 will expand outpatient services to Veterans in the Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Fayetteville, NC areas with the development of Health Care Centers in those communities, and a large Primary Outpatient Clinic in Wilmington. Maintaining quality standards, improving access to care, and enhancing patient satisfaction are core goals for VISN 6.
