Plan started in 1937, when a journalist and a refugee worker decided they wanted to do more for children affected by the Spanish Civil War. Today, we are working side by side with communities in 50 countries to improve the lives of more than 50 million children. With the help of our supporters, Plan has grown into one of the oldest, widest-reaching, and most effective international development organizations. “Plan’s history is full of inspiring individuals from all walks of life who were drawn to a noble mission. Their vision became our vision, and together we are providing real, lasting change for children and their communities across the globe.” - Tessie San Martin, Ph.D., Plan International USA President/CEO Review the "Who We Are" section to take a trip back to our early days and learn about our humble beginnings, past accomplishments and exciting plans for the future.

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance leads an ongoing, comprehensive downtown management program. We bring ideas and people together to help create an exciting and attractive place to live, work, invest, and visit. Established in 2003, HDR set out to reverse the devastating impact many years of economic decline had on downtown. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Harrisonburg`s downtown thrived as the bustling county seat of Rockingham County but struggled when people and businesses began moving to the suburbs. HDR worked with local government, business and property owners, and community groups to bring them back.
