On July 1, 1968, the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) was established to provide a uniform, consistent and equitable statewide retirement program for Arizona`s public safety personnel. Separate plans for Arizona`s elected officials (the Elected Officials` Retirement Plan or EORP) and corrections officers (the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan or CORP) were created by the legislature in 1985 and 1986, respectively. All three plans are qualified governmental pension plans under section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. PSPRS and CORP are agent multiple-employer defined benefit plans.
