Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is one of the largest districts in the state of Georgia, serving approximately 50,000 students in 106 learning facilities throughout the city of Atlanta. APS schools are organized into nine K-12 clusters which provide a quality education for our students. The cluster model provides greater access to a more equitable distribution of resources and multiple layers of support. APS has adopted Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS), which outline high expectations for what students should know in the 21st century and make the district part of the nation-wide initiative to standardize instruction. Our schools provide a vibrant, high-performing learning environment with excellent teachers, the latest technology and innovative learning environments that exceed geographic, racial or economic boundaries. Our standards and expecatations are high. We are committed to seeing all students graduate from Atlanta Public Schools ready for success in college and life, and prepared to be contributing and productive citizens of our city, state, nation and world. The Achievement School District (ASD) is a statewide turnaround school district—one that provides the necessary strategies, resources and support to improve persistently low performing schools. The ASD was created by Tennessee law to improve student outcomes at Priority Schools, which are defined as schools in the bottom five percent (5%) in Tennessee. Schools that become a part of the ASD are managed by selected school operators who are charged with implementing intervention plans that are closely monitored by the Achievement School District. The ASD`s goal is to turn around Priority Schools and return them to their local education agency in the expansive work to improve outcomes for all students.
