Grande West Transportation

Grande West Transportation Inc. was formed in 2008 to design and develop a 27.5 foot bus, known as the "Vicinity". BC Transit, among other transit authorities across Canada, was seeking an affordable, low floor, and accessible transit vehicle. The industry at that time was not providing a cost-effective solution, which lead to the design of the Vicinity. The Vicinity bus is a Canadian designed, community shuttle bus transportation innovation that was conceived to meet the demand for a greener compact bus than what was currently available in North America. It also had to be easily accessible for everyone and customizable to meet each customer`s unique needs, capacity requirements and seating configuration. The Grande West team worked closely with senior management and engineers at BC Transit to create a unique and innovative transportation solution that met their specific requirements, developing and amending the specifications of the Vicinity bus. The first Vicinity bus prototype was delivered in February 2010 as part of a beta-testing program. The Vicinity bus debuted appropriately in its first trial during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was instrumental in helping to provide BC Transit`s enhanced service during the games in the Sea-to-Sky region from Vancouver to Whistler. Initial trials and evaluations of the Vicinity bus were completed for 21 months during the Vicinity bus` tour of B.C. After being tested in a variety of climate conditions and terrains, BC Transit placed its initial order of 15 buses, which were delivered in 2013. The Vicinity buses are certified to the highest standards by the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards ("CMVSS") with Transport Canada and the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation. To design, manufacture and service high quality affordable fuel efficient transportation solutions that allow everyone to go everywhere.
