Child Protection Center, Inc. Kansas City

Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) located in Kansas City, Missouri is a nationally accredited child advocacy center that has served victims of child abuse and their families for more than 17 years. CPC is the only child advocacy center providing forensic interview and family support services to alleged victims of child abuse and their families in Jackson, Cass, and a portion of Lafayette Counties in Missouri. CPCs mission is to respect the child and protect their voice throughout the investigation of child abuse. CPC accomplishes its mission by providing a safe, child-friendly setting in which to interview child abuse victims, coordinating investigative team services as well as mental health and medical services, and providing supportive services to assist children and their families begin the path toward healing. CPC was opened in 1996 to serve as a child-friendly, safe place for children and adolescents who are alleged victims of sexual or extreme physical abuse, neglect or who have witnessed a homicide or violence to give a statement about their experience. This statement is called a forensic interview. In 1996, fewer than 350 children received forensic interviews or extended forensic interviews; that number grew to 827 by 2010. Since 1996 more than 11,000 children and their families have been served. Originally located at The Childrens Mercy Hospital, CPC outgrew this space and moved under the Jackson County Family Court in 2000. In July 2007, CPC became an independent not-for-profit organization. This transition gave CPC more financial stability by allowing it to broaden its funding base and increase the centers ability to fulfill its mission. In 2009, CPC raised funds necessary to renovate and relocate to a larger facility in the Childrens Mercy Clinic building in order to expedite services to children and families.
