From formulating the Governor`s annual budgets to maintaining the grounds of the capitol complex in downtown Montgomery, the Alabama Department of Finance leaves its mark on state government. The state finance director, appointed by the Governor, leads the Department. He is the chief financial officer of the state and the Governor`s advisor in all financial matters. The Mississippi Department of Banking and Consumer Finance`s (DBCF) primary mission is to provide effective supervision and regulation of Mississippi`s State-chartered banks and other financial service industries to ensure the public is provided with a convenient, safe and competitive banking environment, along with fair and lawful consumer related financial transactions. DBCF conducts examinations of all state-chartered banks, thrifts, and credit unions, independent trust companies, mortgage lenders, small loan companies, insurance premium finance companies, motor vehicle sales companies, pawn brokers, title pledge lenders, consumer loan brokers, check cashers (payday lenders), money transmitters, and debt management service providers. DBCF`s examinations ensure these industries are in compliance with Mississippi`s laws designed to protect its citizens.
