Fort Hays State University is a thriving liberal and applied arts, a state-assisted institution in western Kansas with an enrollment of approximately 14,210 students. It has four colleges — Arts and Sciences, Education and Technology, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Health and Life Sciences — and a Graduate School. It also has a Virtual College that delivers courses electronically throughout Kansas and beyond. Oakton is a two-year community college with campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie. Established in 1969 and accredited by The Higher Learning Commission, Oakton offers education and training for the residents and businesses of Illinois District 535.
