The Lorain City School District is located approximately 25 miles west of Cleveland, Ohio and rests on the southern shore of beautiful Lake Erie. Lorain is known throughout northern Ohio as “The International City” due to the many nationalities represented. The first school was held in Asa Clark`s parlor for three years from 1840 to 1843. Mary Williams of Waukesha was the first teacher. In 1843 the first school was built with log benches for seating at the present site of the First Baptist Church at the corner of Main St. and Prospect Ave.
