The Department of Administration`s work is guided by our mission "to manage the state`s financial, human and other resources in support of other state agencies carrying out their responsibilities to provide the citizens of the State of Rhode Island with the most responsive and cost effective services possible". The department provides supportive services to all Rhode Island departments and agencies for effective coordination and direction of state programs within the framework of a changing administrative and fiscal environment, while ensuring accountability of and value for public dollars. The department also provides policy direction for executive leadership in a variety of financial and administrative matters and is responsible for the statewide implementation of policy decisions affecting the organization and delivery of services administered and supported by the state. Principal responsibilities include the development and administration of the $7.5 billion State budget; determining and maintaining standard specifications for purchases, contracts, bids and awards for State purchases; maintenance and upkeep and procurement of State facilities; administration of the statewide planning program and overall personnel administration and management of State departments and agencies and the negotiation of State employee union contracts. The department, headed by the Director of Administration, has seventeen programmatic functions. These include Central Management, Legal Services, Accounts and Control, Budgeting, Purchasing, Auditing, Human Resources, Personnel Appeal Board, Facilities Management, Capital Projects and Property Management, Information Technology, Library and Information Services, Planning, General Appropriations, Debt Service Payments, Energy Resources and various Internal Services Programs. The goal of the Department of Administration is to oversee the provision of statewide supportive services to all departments and agencies in conformance with legislative and policy mandates and to ensure that programs of the department are efficiently organized and implemented.
The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) supports a thriving community of residents, businesses, and visitors through diligent protection of health and safety and equitable administration of regulation and compliance in our District. Summary of Services DCRA is responsible for regulating construction and business activity in the District of Columbia. The agency operates a consolidated permit intake center, as well as reviews construction documents to ensure compliance with building codes and zoning regulations. Construction activity, buildings and rental housing establishments are inspected and housing code violations are abated, if necessary. To protect consumers, DCRA issues business licenses, professional licenses, registers corporations, inspects weighing and measuring devices used for monetary profit and issues special events permits.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs was created in 1945 to consolidate separate veterans programs under one agency. Today, the WDVA provides grants and a variety of services to eligible Wisconsin veterans and their families. Programs included in the department’s mission are the: Wisconsin Veterans Homes, Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemeteries, Veterans Administration Regional Claims Office, Military Funeral Honors Program, Veterans Assistance Program and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. These programs are designed to provide health, educational assistance, economic assistance and other services to specified veterans of the armed forces of the United States. The WDVA is led by a Secretary of Veterans Affairs who is nominated by the Governor of Wisconsin after consulting with the presiding officers of at least six Wisconsin veterans organizations. The Governor’s nomination of the Secretary must be confirmed by the Wisconsin State Senate. The department receives advice from a nine-member, part-time, citizen advisory Board of Veterans Affairs.
The Arizona Lottery operates entirely from the revenue it generates through the sale of its products; it doesn`t receive any general fund dollars from the State. Proceeds from sales of Lottery tickets, nearly $3.4 million per week, fund a variety of vital state programs.
